Shot my gorgeous lil sis this past weekend @abigail_7149 (she plays bass for a few all-girl bands)! Second Model: @raeven_souza Development: @wilson.camera Studio: @matteblackcamerarentals Loving the Kodak UltraMax for my 35mm but after forcing myself to shoot Porta 400 again, it is still not my favorite! Not crazy about Porta 800T either. I haven’t loved the CineStill 50D, but I slightly over exposed my first test roll and will also be trying that again this next week. I think I’m going to keep going CineStill 400 and CineStill 800T all the way because they are also my faves! Disappointed that I was about 1.5-2 stops underexposed on these most recent 120mm—funny enough I had almost identical setup as my last shoot but skipped the light meter this time around and won’t be doing that again! I did want a more moody than glowy and glossy look so I am overall pleased with the new collection.
65 hours of crafting 2 years of photoshoots My first prototype of my film dress is finished! Thank you @ryannmcclellan for letting me use your sewing machine! I do not believe this reel does it justice. When the skirt is off my body and on the mannequin it is completely transparent, featuring every photo clearly! This project felt more like a science experiment than anything. Working with negatives was both challenging and humbling. Unlike fabric, negatives do not fold the same way, and a pattern was not very useful, but I was too stubborn to look up a “how to” or get advice from the internet and instead took an experimental approach with lots of trial and error. I did not want to tack it because I did not want holes in my negatives, so I used water soluble adhesive glue to create the first outline. I built a cage of negatives entirely with glue, then slowly sewed each piece together and dissolved the glue in lukewarm water. Then refrigerated the dress between steps! When I decided to make a top, I realized I had thrown out our third curtain and pulled fabric for the top from the bottom of the remaining ones. I slip stitched extremely thin transparent boning behind the back overlapping lap of negatives (If I were to do it again, I would not be so afraid of the back end showing and would leave less space between the film with almost no overlap) The fabric still hovered over the skeleton stiffly and looked like a cheap costume. Unable to iron the seams, I steamed it over multiple days and manipulated it by hand. I used a hairdryer on low and warped the plastic inner cage into a transparent circle for the negatives to rest on. I have always been a messy, impulsive artist, and this forced me to slow down. I realized I could not create such an intricate concept using simple steps and needed to approach it like handcrafting couture. Even after all this work, I am not satisfied with its figure. The sides are not fully holding shape, and I do not love the inconsistencies of the negatives…I hope to create a second model with a stiffer inner skeleton and negatives accumulated over the next few years, exposed and curated more consistently for a stronger final form.

Cutie Cowgirl @ellie.sagebiel <3

I don’t usually like to shoot film during golden hour, but it was fun to see the colors pop on this one.
